The scientific and technological progress of the 20th century has allowed people to overcome time and distance, to cover in the twinkling of an eye the vast expanse of our planet. The whole world is open now. The limitations of former times have ceased to exist. Modern life is inconceivable without travelling. Travelling is the movement of people between relatively distant geographical locations for any purpose and any duration, with or without any means of transport. Millions of people all over the world spend their holidays travelling.

Travelling is the movement of people between relatively distant geographical locations for any purpose and any duration, with or without any means of transport. Millions of people all over the world spend their holidays travelling. They travel to see other countries and continents, modern cities and the ruins of ancient towns, they travel to enjoy picturesque places or just for a change of scene. It is always interesting to discover new things, to see different ways of life, to meet different people, to try different food, to listen different musical rhythms. When travelling we see and learn all sorts of things we can never see or learn at home.
Walking is a healthy, free and environmentally-friendly way to get around London. Walking means you can beat the traffic while soaking up the view. London is one of the most foot-friendly cities in the world. The best starting point for all the excursions is well known Trafalgar square with Nelson’s Column in the center. Then I recommend you to see the Houses of Parliament on the north bank of the river Thames. The next stop is Westminster Abbey. It is a big church and a national shrine, a place, where English kings and queens are crowned and famous people are buried. Everybody has heard about Saint Paul’s Cathedral. It is the largest Protestant Church in England and a remarkable architectural masterpiece. London shows examples of buildings that express all the different areas of its history. No doubt that in London there are many other sights – Tate Gallery, City, Hyde Park and others, and everyone will find a preference according to his taste. You should only remember that in this city you will get fresh impressions, take great delight in viewing monuments and discover the history of England.
It's difficult to imagine our life without shops. Every day we do shopping. There are many kinds of shops in every town and city. And everywhere you go, you’ll find adverts. Shopping has common elements wherever it takes place. A buyer looks for a seller who is offering something the buyer wants or needs at a price the buyer can afford to pay. Sellers often advertise their wares in newspapers, on the radio or TV, on posters etc. Sellers use a variety of tactics to induce buyers to purchase from them at a price which leaves some profit. Shopping is a part of our daily life. And we have to deal with it whether we like it or not. There are people who hate going shopping. So they make a list of what they need and run through stores buying the needed things. Sometimes they even don't care about the price. And there are people who go from store to store looking for goods of better quality and lower price. Those don't worry about the time they spend shopping. Anyway, shopping is an important part of our daily life. Some people find it boring and hard, others think that it is very entertaining. «So many men so many minds».
4. Shopping in London
There are loads of different places to go shopping in London. Oxford Street is an endless shopping area which attracts visitors from all over the world. You can go there, but be warned, it gets too busy sometimes. Alternatively for a less crowded, more relaxing shopping experience, go to Covent Garden, you can have an expensive cappuccino, and watch some (free) street theatres at the same time. The best of all the big department stores is 'Selfridges' in Oxford Street, it's a shopper's paradise, nice clothes, and the prices. Well I can look, can't I? You can also try Camden, it's busy, exciting, trendy, and there are lots of bargains. You can buy cheap jeans and cool second hand clothes in the morning and then get a tattoo and a body piercing later on!
