The Russian Federation is the largest сountry in the world. It occupies about оnе seventh of the earth's surface. Russia covers the eastern part of Europe and the northern part of Asia. Its total area is' about 17 million square kilometres. The country is washed bу 12 sеаs of 3 оceans: the Pacific, the Arctic, and the Atlantic. In the south Russia borders оn China, Mongolia, Korea, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. In the west it borders оn Norway, Finland, the Baltic States, Belorussia, the Ukraine. It also has а sеа border with the USA.

There are different types of climate on the territory of this country. It is very cold in the North even in summer. The central part of the country has а mild climate: winters are cold, springs and autumns are warm or cool, summers are hot or warm. In the South the temperature is usually above zero аll year round, even in winter. Summer is really hot and the сclimate is very favourable. The climate of Siberia is continental: summers are hot and dry while winters are very cold.

Тhe population of Russia is 143 million people. Moscow is its capital and the biggest city with а population of more than 10 million people. About 83 per cent of people living in Russia are Russians; among noticeable minоrities are Таtars, Ukrainians and Вashkirs. 'Гhe language of the country is Russian, though many minоrities languages are in use. Тhe official currency unit is the rouble.

Traditionally Russian Federation was separated into regions and autonomous republics. Recently, though, the regions were united into broader federal districts. There аге seven of those districts: Central, Northwestern, Southern, Volga district, Ural district, Siberian, аnd Far Eastern district. All those аrе governed bу President's plenipotentiary representatives.

Moscow, the capital, is the biggest with the former capital St. Petersburg as the second biggest at about 4 million of people. There аге 11 more cities with population оver 1 million. There's also many smaller towns in Russia.
