Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

«Get the hot girl. Defeat her evil exes. Hit love where it hurts.»

“Scott Pilgrim vs. the world” is a comedy movie, directed in 2010 by Edgar Wright, based on a graphic novel “Scott Pilgrim” by Bryan Lee O’Meley. I personally didn’t read the comic book, so I will judge it as being the origin of “Scott Pilgrim” series.

In Toronto, Scott Pilgrim is a simple boy. He’s playing in a rock band called called “Sex Bob-omb” as a bass guitarist. Recently, he broke up with his girlfriend. Being upset, he dates Knives Chau, a high schooler, though he isn’t fully recovered from being dumped by his ex. But not until he meets Romana Flowers, American delivery girl, who has been appearing in his dreams, and thus lost interest in Knives, which makes her upset. Started dating Romana, he learns, he must defeat her seven evil exes in order for them to date.

About movie strong points, it would be very bizarre for you, if you watch “Karmelita”, “Real Scumbags” or other tasteless TV series every day, and thus you’ll enjoy it. And special effects in this movie are just brilliant, and they are not like “LOOK, WE HAVE SPECIAL EFFECTS HERE! BOOM, BAM, EXPLOSION! ANOTHER EXPLOSION!”, and it doesn’t make your eyes hurt.

However, again, being mysteriously weird, some can find it bad screaming at you “What the hell are did you show me?”.  But as much other brain-killing much things, you get used to it and will eventually start to love it, pretty much like “Adventure Time” cartoon series.

This movie is something special compared to other action comedy movies. It’s not heavily story-driven movie, nor having no story. Jokes here are hilarious, music is perfect, special effects, as described before, are realistic, even when somebody uses “mental” powers, characters are lovely (but I, personally, don’t like the vegan one, well, because he’s vegan). It has many ‘geek’ moments, like 8-bit music, Scott Pilgrim gaining extra life upon defeat of one of his enemies(two, to be accurate), ‘Sword of love’, and later ‘Sword of Self-Respect’ (this one is far more powerful version of previous one). And I’m not kidding, they actually named like this. I’m never concerned myself as geek or nerd, but still I found this movie very entertaining, I fall in love in it by the start. Guess, I’ll have to kick some exes’s butt!
