Endangered species

• Human  beings destroy their natural habitats to build homes or to get natural resources like wood, oil and coal. We also poison their habitats by polluting the environment. We must stop this destruction. Plants and animals provide us with oxygen, food,and medicines, so all species are important for our survival.

• Air, water, and soil are necessary for existance of all living things. But polluted air can cause illness, and even death. Polluted water kills fish and other marine life. On polluted soil, food can not be grown.

 

Environmental Pollution

• The dodo  was a strange  bird  that couldn’t fly. It lived only on Mauritius. Then Dutch sailors arrived in 1598 with animals. Their animals went wild on the island.

 

As Dead as a Dodo

• If  the sailors hadn’t cut down the forest, they wouldn’t have destroyed the dodos’ natural habitat. If the animals hadn’t gone wild, they wouldn’t have destroyed the dodos’ nests. But by 1681 the dodo had disappeared forever.

 

How did they die?

 

 

• Wombats and koalas have many similarities and are probably related. Both have pockets inside their mouths to store food and neither has a tail.

• The number of koalas is getting smaller. This is partly because of fumes from bush fires. Rescue teams help the koalas by catching them, putting them on respirators, then returning them to their original location when they are better.
